The European Parliament’s first Daphne Caruana Galizia journalism prize will be awarded on Thursday after hundreds of stories were submitted by journalists from all over Europe.
The ceremony is being shown live below
The award will reward outstanding journalism that promotes or defends the core principles and values of the EU such as human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, rule of law, and human rights.
This is the first year the prize has been awarded.
Professional journalists and teams of journalists were urged to submit in-depth pieces published or broadcast by media based in one of the 27 member states.
The winner has been chosen by an independent jury composed of representatives of the press and civil society from the member states and representatives of the main European associations of journalism.
The winner will be handed €20,000 in prize money.
