Torrential rains, as well as ice, thunder and lightning and strong gusts of wind are sweeping the Maltese Islands.
In a Facebook posting the site ‘It-Temp Madwarna’ explained the turbulent weather has resulted from a strong current of warm and humid air creating instability with cold currents as well as a low pressure trough over the Balearics.
Despite the rainy weather and strong showers accompanied by thunder in some localities, no weather extremities are predicted. It is forecast this type weather will persist into the evening but is expected to ease off during the night.
At week’s end the weather should brighten up but Sunday will see a return of today’s weather because cold air currents will once more affect air pressure.
