The Nationalist Party said people who paid extra for electricity bills were left high and dry because the Finance Minister failed to give them a budget refund next year.
At a virtual news conference, the Nationalist Party’s Chief Spokesman, Peter Agius, said that the people were suffering from electricity bills which were stealing money from them surreptitiously. Dr Agius reiterated the Nationalist Party’s promise to repay € 50 million to the people whom he said had been robbed by the Government through electricity bills.
Opposition Energy Spokesman Ryan Callus referred to complaints which he said had reached the Nationalist Party about electricity bills he called exaggerated. Engineer Callus mentioned how a family of four paid an extra € 270 for electricity bills which covered the period when Malta was hit by a heat wave.
Nationalist Candidate Mark Anthony Sammut said the Nationalist Party in Government was reviewing electricity and gas purchase contracts; while referring to the Party’s proposals in this sector including investment in Enemalta’s distribution network, the installation of a second interconnector and the construction of a wind farm at sea.
