The pistol that actor Alec Baldwin fired and killed the female photography director and wounded an assistant director was given to him by the director who told him that it was safe. The accident occurred during the filming of ‘Rust’.
This emerged from information given to the inquiry which was appointed in connection with the tragedy on the film set in Santa Fe.
42-year old Ukrainian Halyna Hutchins died during the accident while director Joel Souza, aged 48, was injured.
The inquiry showed that assistant director Dave Halls was not aware that there was ammunition in the pistol.
Before the accident occurred, some six crew members protested against their working conditions.
In the film, 63-year old Baldwin interpreted the part of a man wanted by law after his nephew was sentenced to death following an accidental killing.
In a tweet, Baldwin said he is shocked and sad with the tragic accident that killed Haljna Hutchins, adding that he is fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred.
Fatal accidents on film sets are rare with the latest renowned case occurring in 1993 when Brandon Lee, song of legendary Bruce Lee, was also wounded by a firearm shooting accident during the filming of “The Crow”.
