Opposition and Nationalist Party Leader Bernard Grech has stated that when he addresses Parliament tomorrow in his reply to the Budget speech he will speak about the Nationalist Party’s future vision.
During a political activity in Ħal Balzan Dr Grech said last Monday’s Budget only creates future debts, so much so that the country is going into debt to the tune of four million euro every day.
The Nationalist leader stressed that the Government had forgotten a number of sectors like tourism and manufacturing, adding that the Nationalist Party keeps people at the centre of politics.
Dr Grech stated that the Budget for next year lacks vision and only leaves debts for future generations.
The PN leader said the Government first creates problems, then boasts it is solving them.
Dr Grech said a serious politician is obliged to offer a vision for the future and not just for the present, adding that the Government only dedicated three pages of the budget speech to the future.
The PN leader said the country’s debts are not just because of Covid but because of corruption and squandering of money.
Dr Grech added that the Government cannot be taken seriously because one out of every three measures in the Budget for the present year has not been implemented.
Dr Grech stated that the Budget does not tackle conditions for educators and self-employed and did not offer any solution for Malta to be removed from the FATF grey list.
The speaker added that the cost of living increase is too little when you have people who are not coping, and many are having to work more to keep up.
The PN leader further stated that this Government had deceived people even in regard to IVF, insisting the impression had been given that the service was free.
Dr Grech explained that the Government had now admitted this was not a free service and is addressing the issue in next year’s Budget.
Dr Grech said the national station has been taken over by Castille and referred to his meeting with the Broadcasting Authority to address what he called the imbalance by PBS.
The speaker mentioned that the Nationalist Party would not let the Broadcasting Authority fail to perform its obligations in this regard.
Referring to the motorsport track, the PN leader said everyone was now realising this will not be implemented as it is supposed to be, adding that a Nationalist Government will provide a track that enthusiasts of this sport deserve.
Dr Grech mentioned the Nationalist Party’s promise to set up a 40 million euro fund to help businesses and said a Nationalist Government will refund money stolen through water and electricity bills.
The Opposition leader concluded that on the fourth anniversary of the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia the Government did not have the courage to address what had happened.
