By mid October Covid-19 vaccine booster shot to be given to those living and working in residential care homes
Minister for the Elderly, Michael Farrugia, said that by mid-October all senior citizens in residential homes will be given the booster of the vaccine against Covid-19. In comments to Television Malta, Minister Farrugia said that preparations have begun for vaccination booster of workers working with the elderly during the same period. Dr Farrugia said that in less than a month a total of 9,000 people will be vaccinated.
During the presentation of the annual report of the Social Welfare Standards Authority, Minister Farrugia said that the staff of the Authority took part in the virus vaccination program by ensuring that all the elderly in residential homes be among the first to be vaccinated. Dr Farrugia pointed out that with this initiative about 15,000 vaccines were given.
The Chief Executive of the Authority, Angele Ellul Fenech, said that in the year of the pandemic a record 3,300 visits were made to residential homes with the participation of the Enforcement Office. Dr Ellul Fenech explained that these visits were made to ensure, among other things, the health and safety of the elderly in residential homes during the pandemic.
