Belarusian athlete Krystsina Tsimanouskaya, 24, is alive and well at Haneda airport in Japan after refusing to return to her country and is seeking refuge from Japanese authorities.
The athlete was ordered to return to Belarus after publicly criticizing her coaches with Belarusian authorities ordering her to be withdrawn from the national athletics team.
But Tsimanouskaya applied for asylum and Poland and the Czech Republic offered to consider granting her asylum in Europe.
The Japanese authorities, the International Olympic Committee and even the United Nations refugee agency are following her case.
She was granted a humanitarian visa by Poland after the Polish Deputy foreign minister said Poland would do everything necessary to help an athlete continue her sporting career.
